Job Summary
To serve as a reporter for KUT News on-air and online, with a focus on educational equity in Central Texas. Responsible for researching, reporting, writing and producing radio news stories and digital content for KUT News. Apply here.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
Produces short turn-around spots and feature reports for KUT News. Generates ideas, researches topics, writes, reports and mixes radio news reports and online stories. Reports on assigned coverage beat and occasionally general news for on-air/online segments that meet KUT standards and deadlines. Interviews people associated with the story. Drives personal vehicle or drives a KUT vehicle when it is available, to assigned news events. Produces and reports assignments under agreed-upon reporting and production deadlines. Operates broadcast technical equipment and uses web-based technologies to produce on-air and online reports and/or programs. Attends story meetings with story suggestions on specialized beat. Provides assistance to other reporters with story research, editorial duties and background materials. Develops beat contacts. Reports news for national programming as assigned. Performs related technical duties as assigned. Serves a s back up on-air host. Makes public appearances at events promoting KUT Radio or its outreach activities. Other related functions as assigned.

Skills / Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Radio/Television/Film, Communications, Journalism or related field. One year of professional experience reporting or producing news. Experience meeting deadlines and reporting under strict time limits. Knowledge of the operations of public radio local and national news. Demonstrated ability to meet multiple tight daily deadlines. Excellent verbal, writing, editing, digital and online production skills. Must be able to multi-task. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications At least 3 years full-time broadcast reporting experience within the last 5 years. Three years of public radio reporting and production experience within the past five years, demonstrating increasing responsibilities. Experience producing content for news website including producing web text, interactive material and multimedia content. Extensive knowledge of Austin City politics and social issues, including an awareness of local political and activist organizations and interest groups. An understanding of Austin policy making including the role of city departments and City Council. A desire to explore Austin's diverse communities and seek voices that are often silent in our public discourse. Newscast experience and superior production skills, including ability to mix own stories and ability to report live on-air with short notice. Spanish speaking skills.
