How the Judging Works

Judging, Awards and Recognition

Station Entries
Station entries are judged first by geographic region by a diverse panel of judges from around the country. (Note: Region 14 includes all international members)

An award will be given in each category unless, in the opinion of the judges, no award is warranted. The decision of the judges is final. Entries that win regional awards are automatically submitted for consideration of the national Edward R. Murrow Award. The RTNDA Board of Directors will select the national Edward R. Murrow Award winners from among the regional finalists.

Network/Syndication Service/Program Service Entries
Network/Syndication Service/Program services are defined as organizations that cater to multiple markets. VNRs and ANRs do not qualify. Qualified entries are automatically considered for national Edward R. Murrow Awards.

Judging of Non-Broadcast-Affiliated Websites

Website entries that are not affiliated with radio or television news organizations will be judged at the national level only.

Awards and Recognition

Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards: Each regional winner will receive one RTNDA Regional Award plaque. Plaques will be distributed at regional meetings or shipped to the winning station. Regional winners will be publicized via a news release and on the RTNDA website. Additional personalized plaques can be purchased here.

National Edward R. Murrow Awards: Recipients of a national Edward R. Murrow Award will receive a custom-designed trophy, which will be presented to a representative from the winning organization in October 2009 at the RTNDA Awards Dinner in New York. Winners will also be publicized via a news release and the RTNDA website, and featured in the printed program distributed at the dinner. The dinner program is also polybagged and distributed with the Nov/Dec issue of Communicator. Additional personalized trophies can be purchased here.

Notification

Regional Edward R. Murrow Award winners will be announced in April 2009. RTNDA regional directors will contact the winners in their region.

National RTNDA Edward R. Murrow Award recipients will be announced in June 2009. Winners will be notified prior to the public announcement.
