Wolf Blitzer and the "Department of Jihad" on CNN

As documented and shown by blogger Glenn Greenwald today, Wolf Blitzer covered the campaign by Liz Cheney's organization to tar Justice Department lawyers as Al Qaeda sympathizers with screen teasers reading, "Dept. of Jihad?", "Al Qaeda 7", and "Are Justice Dept. Lawyers Disloyal?"

Liz Cheney's campaign is almost a direct script from Senator Joe McCarthy's rant about "210 card-carrying members of the Communist Party in the Department of State". It is more than reprehensible that Wolf Blitzer, a former recipient of the Edward R. Murrow award would besmirch that name by doing exactly what Edward R. Murrow defied Alcoa and his superiors to stop: A political smear campaign based on innuendo attacking government and other workers by impugning their patriotism.

I demand that you ask Mr. Blitzer to return the award, and ask him for an apology.

How far you have fallen.

Wolf Blitzer

I second the remarks of the previous writer. CNN\'s Wolf Blitzer has disgraced his profession, and seems determined to debase American journalism with each gimmicky, irresponsible report or interview he does. How does such a man merit an award named after Murrow, who wasn\'t ashamed to display integrity and intelligence in his work? What could this award possibly have to a future recipient if the bar is set so low?

Third against Wolf Blitzer

If Edward R. Murrow was offered this award and he learnt that one of its recipients was Wolf Blitzer, he probably would not have accepted it.

For shame! Shame!
