I can’t bear to put my cowboy boots away just yet after EIJ14 in Nashville. But it’s already time to budget for the 2015 Excellence in Journalism Conference so that you don’t miss out on another fantastic set of super sessions, award winners and breakout sessions next September 18-20 in Orlando, Florida.
Now is a great time to start thinking about submitting a session idea. You’ll hear from, and get the chance to meet, some of the biggest names in broadcast journalism, tour the expo floor and meet new friends.
As a Floridian, I recommend a few great places to visit while in Orlando. You’ve got your usual theme parks: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios, multiple water parks and more. But I can’t wait to see a Cirque du Soleil show or Blue Man Group (for the third time!). Go off the beaten path and take an airboat through a swamp or a balloon ride over the Orlando treetops. Pet some alligators and other wildlife at Gatorland, go indoor skydiving or drive an authentic NASCAR-style stock car. Of course there’s always live music, art galleries, festivals and museums. East coast beaches are just about an hour away and it’s less than an hour to Cape Canaveral if you plan some extra time around the conference.
Don’t forget if you haven’t already filled out the EIJ14 survey please do so. The results help us create an even better conference next time around. And if you want to see what you missed in Nashville, including a video of the Lessons from Ferguson breakout session, all our student coverage is available here.
